Imphal, December 28:
Just 4 percent reservation for Meitei Pangals out of the total reservation for OBCs is unreasonable and is well below the expectation of the Muslim people, observed the All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO).
During a press meet today, secretary of AMMSO Md Anwar Hussain appealed to the authority concerned to declare reservation percentages of OBCs after identifying the most backward sections among the OBCs.
Saying that the most backward sections among the peoples inhabiting Manipur are comprised of Muslims, Anwar lamented at the alleged non-recognition of the pathetic backwardness of the Meitei Pangals by the OBC Commission.
Reminding that AMMSO was among the front runners struggling for reservation of OBCs since a long time back, Anwar said that AMMSO would not accept 4 percent reservation for Meitei Pangals as announced by the State Govt.Yet, AMMSO hailed the State Government for declaring reservation for OBCs.
Although, its decision to boycott the incumbent Ministry if the reservation for OBCs is not announced before the Assembly elections has been revoked, AMMSO would launch new agitation for increment in the percentage reserved for Meitei Pangals, Anwar disclosed.
Being the most backward section among the OBCs, the reservations for Meitei Pangals should be at least 7/8 percent out of the total reservation for OBCs, he maintained.
Reservation of just 4 percent as against 10 percent demanded by AMMSO is unacceptable, the secretary remarked.
Quoting basic criteria for classification of the most backward section, he urged the authority concerned to ensure due benefits and advantages to deserving peoples.
