Protesting alleged failure of the State Govt fulfil points of agreement signed between the Government and All Manipur PWD Employees and Worker' Association, effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi and other officials concerned were burnt today in the PWD complex.
The Association is on cease work stir since Dec 23 demanding fulfillment of their demands.
Besides effigy of the CM, effigies of the Chief Secretary, Commissioner (Works) and Advocate General were also burnt today.
Speaking to reporters, general secretary of the Association Y Ibomcha Khuman informed that they have been urging for their demands since 1992.After repeated appeals and reminders over the years, the demands to upgrade Muster Roll employees to Work Charge and regularise Work Charge employees were granted inprinciple as per an agreement reached between the State Government and the Association on August 3, 2004, informed Ibomcha.
However, the points of agreement have not been fulfilled till date, he added.
Other demands include rectification of the Terminal Benefit Rules 1978, confirmation of Work Charge staff, abidance to a proper promotion system for engineers and employees, extension of medical reimbursement facility to Work Charge staff and provision of leave encashment advantage to Work Charge staff, mentioned Ibomcha.
As no positive response has come forward from the State Government despite the cease work stir since December 23, the Association would launch various forms of stronger agitation until its demands are fulfilled, disclosed the general secretary.
