In view of the frequent outbreak of malaria in the malarial prone areas of the southern side of Ukhrul district, a team of experts had started malaria eradication programmes from today.
The inauguration function of the campaign and anti-malaria month 2009 observance was organised at Kamjong CHC sub-division, around 88 km from the district headquarters, along Indo-Myanmar border.
Kamjong SDO Larte Kom was the chief guest while Kamjong village headman Ramzat was the guest of honour.
MO in-charge Dr Athui gave the welcome address and the key not address was delivered by DMO, UDVBDCPS and the vote of thanks by MTS Ukhrul.
On the sidelines of the camp, an official said that as soon as the news of spread of malaria and reports of death in Kamjong sub-division was received, the Department has taken up actions seriously and will do the needful not to spread further.
Maintaining that as a precautionary measure around 20,000 (twenty thousand) of Chloroquine and three hundred RTK kits were given to the concerned CHCs of the affected and adjoining areas, he added.
As per findings, over 17 positive cases were confirmed in Kamjong sub-division this year with one report of death of the case, he informed.
He further informed that hundreds of villagers and headman of the adjoining villagers, social workers and the well wishers were also participated during the said camps.
