Imphal, July 08, 2012:
The Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) in its consultative meeting held on June 22 at Longmai-III village community hall, Tamenglong adopted a number of resolutions including the ongoing Naga peace process.
A statement issued by the Baudi's president Raitu Chawang and general secretary K Elu Ndang said the consultative meeting reaffirmed support to the ongoing political negotiations for solving the Naga issue.
Terming the peace process that has consumed 15 years as 'a little too long without any tangible result', the statement said "Zeliang rong people who had suspended their movement for re-integration of their (Zeliangrong) territories into a single administrative unit in the larger interest of the Naga Nation would be constrained to reconsider their support to the Naga peace process, if the Nagas' right to territorial integration of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland is not made a non-negotiable criteria in the ongoing negotiations".
The meeting is also informed to have resolved on forming a committee to oversee setting up of multi-utility/facility 'Zeliangrong Houses' in Dimapur and Delhi by acquiring land in the larger interest of the people, on priority basis.
The Zeliangrong Houses would function in such a manner that it would generate income for better functioning of the Baudi and its frontal organisations, the statement said.
Taking serious note on the division of Zeliangrong tribe into Kabui, Rongmei, Inpui, Kacha Naga, Zeme and Liangmei, the Longmai meeting resolved to initiate relevant process for modification/rectification of the 'incomplete and confusing nomenclature' in the Constitution (Schedule Tribe) Order (Amendment) Act 2011, recently passed by Parliament to incorporate 'Zeliangrong' or any other appropriate nomenclature for preserving collective identity.
"The Zeliangrong people cannot and should not be fragmented in any manner because we are bound by indestructible bond of blood relationship, common origin, culture and history," the Baudi statement said.
While strongly condemning factional clashes in Zeliangrong areas and appealing to all concerned to shun acts of violence, the meeting also resolved to launch intense movement in case Government of India do not give positive response to the democratic and just demands of the Zeliangrong people within six months, cautioned the Baudi with reference to the representation handed over to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on December 10, 2011.Moreover, the meeting decided to prohibit all sorts of seismic survey in Zeliangrong area by any firm/agent until modalities, that suit the people's interest or are acceptable, are worked out, said the statement asking village authorities who issued'no objection certificate'to the surveying agencies, to immediately nullify the clearance (NOC) .
