Imphal, August 07:
In a startling revelation the Kangpokpi Youth Union, Sadar Hills said the Sadar Hills under-17 school team that recently won the Inter District School football tournament at Khuman Lampak Practice Ground received a meagre Rs 1500 compared to media report of the host Department handing over Rs 10,000 to the champion school during the closing ceremony.
Describing such attitude and conduct of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports as derogatory and misleading, the Kangpokpi body in a release also expressed strong resentment that morale of upcoming players would be dented severely in case such a trend is not reversed at the earliest possible.
Other charge levelled against the Department concerns selection procedure with the Union maintaining that only six players that won the competition (Sadar Hills) were shortlisted for preparation of State school team compared to eight from Thoubal district included in the selection list inspite of Thoubal district school fail ing to reach even the quarter final stage of the tournament.
The Club drew the attention of the State authorities to enquire and pull up erring officials of the Department concerned as to weed out corruption from sports and
uphold spirit and enthusiasm of upcoming sportspersons.
The Union further alleged that Kangpokpi office of Youth Affairs and Sports had not been implementing sports promotional programmes meant for Sadar Hills in the last 2-3 years and demanded that the
Department concerned clarify on the failure.
It also cautioned that failure to rectify anomaly in the selection process would constraint the Union to take its own course of action.
