Water scarcity issues discussed

Janata Dal (United) Manipur and Meetei Council, Moreh convened a meeting at the office of Meetei Council, Moreh and discussed the adverse impacts of water scarcity and other problems in the area, reports our correspondent.
The meeting was headed by JD(U) Manipur State president M Tombi Singh and Meetei Council, Moreh president M Thoiba Singh.
M Thoiba Singh stated that the two water reservoirs of the PHED located in Moreh ward no.1 and 9 are not sufficient to meet the needs of the people in Moreh town.
After the water reservoir in ward number 9 became functional, water pipes in the area which are close to around 30 years have not been replaced till now, informed M Thoiba Singh.
Expressing concern over the serious health problems of water borne diseases and other related illnesses, M Thoiba Singh said the negligence of Moreh PHED officials should be looked into by the State Government.
Water pipes along Tali road have not been functioning for years and similar cases could be seen in Moreh ward no.5 and 6 as well, M Thoiba said.
Stressing on the problems of water scarcity and impacts of environmental changes, the Janata Dal (U) Manipur State president said that forest area in Lokchao are being burnt or cut down every year.
Amid series of campaigns to conserve and preserve forests and environment, such acts should not be taken lightly by the State Government.
The meeting also discussed the immediate need to reconstruct the State Fire Service Department in Moreh and provide better mode of accommodation to the staff members.
