Village authorities of 24 villages in Tamenglong' district have threatened to impose economic blockade on NH-37 from February 2 to 7 citing Government's failure to compensate people affected by the construction/widening of the highway.
As per a statement of the Land and Properties Owners' Association NH-37/39, an ultimatum the village authorities served to the Chief Minister yesterday said that the decision to call the economic blockade from 6 pm of February 2 to 6 pm of February 7 was taken during a public meeting held at Kambiron yesterday.
Earlier, the affected people of the 24 villages along Tupul-Phaitol section of the NH-37 had submitted a memorandum demanding compensation to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on January 13 .
However, the authorities concerned have not yet expedited the necessary processes for compensation, they said.
During the bandh, all National projects will be shut down.
However, services related to electricity, medical, water supply, education and marriage programmes will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
In case the Government fails to compensate, more stringent forms of agitation will be launched, they said appealing to the Chief Minister for his intervention.
