Imphal, December 24 2020:
The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Christmas.
Wishing peace and harmony to reign among all communities in the State, RPF's deputy secretary, minority affairs, Y Shyam, in a statement said that Jesus Christ stands for truth, love and harmony.
Even though COVID-19 pandemic has affected Christmas celebrations, people should remember Jesus' teachings and pray in their hearts.
Jesus had suffered on the cross to save people from their sins.
He had shown the true path, love and forgiveness.
May this Christmas bring love and respect for one another, said RPF.
About 2.3 percent of 1.3 billion people are minority Christians and since the BJP-led Government came to power in India, there has been increasing "attacks on the minority Christians by the Hindu extremists" according to Catholic Asian News, claimed RPF.
Even though India claims to be a secular Nation, there have been 450 incidents of violence against non-Hindus in 2020.From January, 2016 to September, 2020, there have been 2,224 incidents of violence against non-Hindus.
Recently, a BJP MP had said that the Muslims in India should not be given minority status as their numbers are far greater than the number of Muslims in Pakistan, alleged RPF.
Manipur is a place where there has been no incidents of one oppressing others on religious grounds.
People of all religions in Manipur should reject "divisive" policy of India.
It is time for all to stand united against forces acting to harm indigenous people.
All should respect each other and live in harmony, said RPF.
