Imphal, June 16 2012:
A sum of Rs 23 lakhs out of the total amount reportedly misappropriated by Changamdabi Gram Panchayat Pradhan Md Kamruddin has been paid back to the Changamdabi GP Development Organisation.
The same amount has been distributed to the people of Changamdabi GP at the rate of Rs 1000 per household.
A sum of Rs 1000 was distributed to each household of Changamdabi Ward Nos 4, 5, 6 and 7 today during a simple gathering held at the house of RTI activist Imran Shah Changamdabi Mathak Leikai Ward No 6 .
Changamdabi GP has seven wards in total and the same amount would be distributed to the people of the remaining ward Nos 1, 2 and 3 tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the gathering, secretary of the Changamdabi GP Development Organisation Md Ayub Kori said that RTI activists Imran Shah and Mastan Salam, impelled by strong suspicion that Pradhan Kamruddin had misappropriated a huge amount of money sanctioned for the Gram Panchayat under MGNREGS and other schemes, strove to ascertain their suspicion by exercising the RTI Act.
It was ultimately learnt that Kamruddin had actually misappropriated a large amount of money meant for the people without implementing any work.
After the suspicion was established as a truth, people have been agitating against the Pradhan for the last many years.
Finally, Pradhan Kamruddin confessed his faults and paid back Rs 23 lakhs to the Changamdabi GP Development Organisation.
The remaining amount of Rs 10 lakhs after distributing Rs 1000 to each of the 1300 households of Changamdabi GP would be used in building a new community hall, extension and improvement of the existing community hall, construction of Meira Paibi shed, fencing the local burial grounds etc, said Ayub Kori.
