Rape bid lands man in jail

A middle-aged man accused of attempting to rape a teenager has been sent to jail after the victim's father lodged a police complaint in Imphal East district.
The wife of the accused has also lodged a counter complaint against the teenager's father of rampaging through her property in a fit of rage.
45-year-old Khaidem Binoy Singh of Tabungkhok Mayai Leikai was arrested by Patsoi police in Imphal East district on June 12, seven hours after the father of the girl lodged a police complaint that the former had attempted to rape his 17-year-old daughter, said police source.
The incident took place at about 3:30 pm on June 11 and the victim's father lodged a police complaint at about 10:30 pm the same day.
The accused and the victim are from the same locality, said the source.
Khaidem Binoy Singh has been booked under FIR NO.36 (6) 2011 of IPC u/s 447/488/376/511 .
In a counter complaint, Promita Devi, wife of Khaidem Binoy Singh, has lodged a complaint at the same police station, against seven local individuals including the father of the rape-attempt victim.
Promita accused the father of the attempted rape victim, and seven others of assault and dismantling her house.
The seven local individuals led by the father stormed the house of Promita in a fit of rage at about 7:30 pm on June 11, about seven hours after the attempted rape incident, and rampaged through the property wielding axe, spade, bamboo sticks etc, said the police.
