Cases of crimes against women increasing in the State, says Prosecution Director

Director of Prosecution Thounaojam Kamini Kumar, on Friday said there has been a marked increase in the number of crimes against women in the State in the last three-four years.
Speaking to media persons in a press conference held at DIPR complex at Moirangkhom today, Director Kamini Kumar said his department works to clear most women and child related cases, specially the sensitive ones related to crime against women and children, in the stipulated time.
In instances where the accused is not present or is absconding and when witnesses refuse to come out, the cases get delayed.
During January, 2015 to June, 2016, the Directorate received 1217 charge sheets from the Police Department for scrutiny.
Out of this, 1023 charge sheets have been cleared and 120 charge sheets have been returned to the Police Department for rectification, the Director revealed.

There are seven District and Sessions Courts, two Additional District and Sessions Courts (FTC), seven Chief Judicial Magistrate/ Civil Judge (Senior Division) Courts, two Chief Judicial Magistrate (Full time) and ten Civil Judge (Junior Division) � cum � Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Court in the State.
Over this, there are six Special Courts under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 .
Public Prosecutor RK Premita said the trial begins after scrutinising the charge sheets submitted by investigating agencies and evidences are summoned if necessary.
Maximum efforts are invested to dispose the cases as quickly as possible.
Deputy Director Amang Haokip said sensitive cases are dealt with caution.
The Directorate puts all its efforts to dispose cases related to Pocso in the stipulated time.
