In what could be an extreme display of discontentment, people of Lilong Tairenpokpi shooed away MLA of Lilong A/C Md Helaluddin by pelting stones this morning.
The people were enraged over the MLA taking side with a party regarding a violent row that took place a few days back.
The mob also caused some damage to the MLA's car.
Even as security escorts stood guard against the assault and led away the MLA, the mob pelted stones on the security escorts.
On the other, one woman sustained injury when police fired tear gas shells to control the mob.
On June 25 when Md Mujibur Rehman of Lilong Chaobok and some of his followers came to the house of Md Khambi of Lilong Tairenpokpi accusing Khambi of stealing battery demanded the battery, there was an incident of firing.
Md Mujibur Rehman was killed in the firing.
Accusing Khambi of shooting Rehman, Mujibur's party bashed up Khambi in a severe manner.
Khambi succumbed in the next morning.
There was a complaint at Lilong police demanding legal action against those involved in killing Khambi.
People's wrath was turned to the MLA today when he came to a meeting convened on the issue arising out from the killing.
