Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei of 38 Assam Rifles accused of attempt to rape/outrage the modesty of one Neingneikim Haokip on March 13 last year has been dismissed from service and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
A press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S) informed that Namthuipou Gangmei was tried by General Court Martial at Keithelmanbi and he was found guilty after the trial.
Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei was accused of using criminal force on Neingneikim Haokip d/o Thenmang Haokip of Veitum Khullen village by hitting her with stone and tearing her clothes in the state of intoxication.
Following the incident, a Staff Court of Inquiry was promptly convened by Headquarters 9 Sector Assam Rifles.
After having thoroughly perused the State Court of Inquiry, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen BK Chengapa directed disciplinary action against Rifleman Namthuipou Gangmei and hence the Rifleman was court martialled, added the PRO release.
