Imphal, January 28 2021:
The Joint Civil Organisations of Chandel and Tengnoupal have come out strongly against the alleged 'atrocities on innocent villagers of S Moljol village on January 24 on the pretext that there is inter armed groups killing at Moreh,' by the State security forces.
In a statement, the Joint Civil Organisations of Chandel and Tengnoupal alleged that even lactating women, aged people and children were not spared and added that this is a clear case of human rights violation.
The action of the security forces came in the aftermath of the killing of a functionary of the KNA/KNO by the UKLF at Moreh.
Mentioning the efforts made by the CSOs to stop inter-groups killing, the Joint Civil Organisations said that taking into consideration the hardships faced by the people in the face of killings between KNA/KNO and UKLF, the CSOs of Chandel in 2015, approached leaders of the two outfits and this led to the signing of a peace agreement between the two groups in the presence of political leaders like Ngamthang Haokip (then a Minister), Sesei Zou, Chairman of Chandel ADC, leaders of Kuki Inpi, Manipur, KSO, KWUHR at a school at Tengnoupal district headquarters.
The peace agreement was inked with a traditional oath before God, political leaders, CSO leaders, and the public said the statement.
A prominent religious leader, Dr Hawlngam Haokip tendered the oath and offered a prayer for leaders of the two groups, said the statement.
However, KNA/KNO forgot about the peace agreement and on June 3, 2016 killed captain George J Zou of the UKLF.
Again on July 13, 2019, another member of UKLF, lieutenant John Gangte was killed by Thangminlen Guite and Thahpi Haokip along with cadres of KNA/KNO, it alleged.
What did the State Government do when inter-organisational killings were started by the KNA/KNO at Moreh in 2016, questioned the Joint Civil Society Organisations.
