Imphal, July 26 2014 :
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has in a press release deplored the police excesses to the agitating students while demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur so as to safeguard the indigenous people of the State.
The AMUCO vindicated in the press release that the ongoing movements spearheaded by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System for implementation of ILP in the State is a democratic movement.
It further mentioned that the undemocratic police actions against the young buds should not be applied in a democratic social setup.
The Government and its organizational agencies must try to understand the demand and aspiration of the people as well as the in-depth knowledge of democracy among them, it asserted in the release.
Elaborating on the issue, the idea of democracy demand and demography must also be inside the mind of the Government and its agencies, the release averred.
The people of the State have felt that the room for people's participation for democratic exercise was thrown away by the elected representatives thereby emerging a social condition in which the elected representatives are badly criticized by fellow compatriots in the best interest of the people and society.
And this is evident in the case of Babloo Loitongbam while discussing the present ILP row, the AMUCO release remarked and further added that there is no need for Committee but Commitment is expected from the elected representatives.
Due to lack of this commitment, the Government failed to implement ILP in the State despite fact that the Cabinet as well as in the Assembly session had resolved in support of the people demand in 2013 .
It is mentioned in the release that the Government should address the grievances and demands of the people before they are on the streets for their rightful demands.
The release also conveyed that Government should try not to make "angry" the people instead of focusing on the "angry" .
The Government might have expected non violence movement from the people while expressing their demand and at the same time, the police used violence against the non violence agitator.
This hangover British colonial police culture should be discussed in the ongoing Assembly session on July 28 so as to award befitting action against the wrong doing police personnel, it demanded.
And if there is no positive response from the Government, it should be an invitation for full scale upheaval.
And lastly, the release urged the elected leaders to be more sympathetic towards public criticism for them as they are serving the State in the interest of the people.
