Directorate of Family Welfare Services has completed Phase-I , Phase- II and PhaseIII (up to 3rd rounds) of the Mission Indradhanush programme successfully at the identified districts of the State.
The main focus under this programme is to cover all the unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children and pregnant women and until full immunization, as per guideline of government of India, is achieved.
Mission Indradhanush was launched by the Union Health Minister JP Nadda on December 25, 2014.The mission aims to immunize all children against seven vaccine preventable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B by 2020.In addition to this, vaccines for Japanese Encephalitis (JE), rotavac and Haemophilus influenzae type B (HIB) are also being provided in selected States of the country under the mission.
Full immunization against preventable childhood diseases is the right of every child.
With a view to provide this right, the Government of India launched the Universal Immunization Program (UIP) in 1985, one of the largest health programme of its kind in the world.
Despite being operational for over 30 years, UIP has been able to fully immunize only 65% children in the first year of their life.
To strengthen and invigorate the program and achieve full immunization coverage for all children at a rapid pace, the Government of India launched Mission Indradhanush in December 2014.Mission Indradhanush will ensure that all children under the age of two years and pregnant women are fully immunized with all available vaccines.
The Mission is strategically designed to achieve high quality routine immunization coverage while contributing to strengthening the health system.
In the last few years, India's full immunization coverage has increased by only 1% per year.
The Mission has been launched to accelerate the process of immunization and achieve full immunization coverage for all children in the country.
Although there are nine districts in Manipur, five districts namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Churachandpur are controlled by District Family Welfare Officers and the rest of the districts namely Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel are controlled by District Immunization Officers under the supervision of Chief Medical Officers of each district for smooth implementation of the different programmes under the mission and also to achieve 100 per cent coverage as per Government of India guideline.
In Manipur, Pentavalent vaccination was launched in October 8, 2015 throughout the 9(nine) districts in addition to the present vaccination programme as per the Government of India guidelines while the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) was launched on April 1, 2016 at the conference hall of the Family Welfare Services, Manipur under the chairmanship of Mission Director, State Health Society, National Health Mission, Manipur.
