Dimapur, September 14 2013 :
Nagaland ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and top bureaucrats will now look after their own security while in station as the state home minister had reportedly directed the state police headquarters to withdraw all security vehicle-escorts.
A leading newspaper based in Dimapur had reported that Nagaland home minister G Kaito Aye had issued this directive as more security personnel are needed for maintaining the worsening law and order.
The Nagaland Post had further reported that the home minister had withdrawn his security escorts last week before issuing this directive.
The daily added in its report quoting a senior police officer claiming that some Parliamentary Secretaries and MLAs had already 'surrendered their escorts' to the police headquarter.
Following this directive from the Nagaland home minister, some legislators and bureaucrats had expressed displeasure, the Dimapur based daily stated.
It can be noted here that over 600 police personnel were attached with the legislators along with one driver each.
Meanwhile, East Dimapur Tribal Council (EDTC) has lauded the initiative of Nagaland home minister G Kaito Aye.
