Nurses' Day celebrated

The Trained Nurses Association of India, Manipur branch celebrated International Nurses' Day at the Uripok Khumanthem Leikai office of the Association today.
The celebration was held with Joint Director (Health Services) Dr Karam Lokendro Singh and TNAI Manipur Branch president L Ibohal Singh as the chief guest and president respectively while Joint Director (Health Services) Dr S Manikanta Singh and Joint Director of Nursing cum Registrar MNC Vungzanem Valte graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
This year the celebration was held under the theme 'closing the Gap: The Millennium Development Goals' .
Delivering the key-note address, TNAI secretary Th Radheshyam Devi highlighted that out of eight goals envisioned by the United Nations, with regard to the celebration theme, three are health-related objectives.
Elaborating that the UN goals include eradication of global economic disparity, prevention of child mortality and women empowerment, she also informed that gathering that under a specific project of the Central Government HIV/AIDS awareness programmes are being conducted for staff nurses working in all the Government medical centres.
Stating that the project was launched in 2009 with the enrolment of 97 nurses in the first batch, Radheshyam conveyed that the project would conclude in august this year.
