Imphal, April 12 2011:
It is an unfortunate thing that Manipuris who should be working as officers in the administration of the State are working elsewhere.
Therefore, we should try to produce good students and encourage them to join the administration of the State for the development of Manipur, the newly appointed Chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) Dr S Singsit has stated.
The former Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and retired IFS officer today assumed the office of Chairman of MPSC.
Along with Dr Singsit, two retired IAS officers, namely Md Abdur Sattar and P Bharat, who have been appointed as the Members of the Commission too assumed their respective charges from today.
The posts of the Chairman as well as the Members in MPSC have been lying vacant since the retirement of former Chairman Rakesh, another retired IAS officer and the Members in December, 2010 .
As a result, the normal functioning of the Commission remained idle all these months even though the staff of the Commission attended office.
Interacting with The Sangai Express in his office chamber, the new MPSC Chairman Dr S Singsit said that he is happy with the appointment and is ready to perform the responsibility trust upon him to his best level.
Dr Singsit lamented that Manipur is only waking up to the need for development in recent time while the rest of the work has gone far ahead.
Today, there are many Manipuris who are working outside the State as doctors, engineers, IAS officers, scientists, Army officers as well as in other civil services.
They may have been compelled to look for service outside the State on account of the prevailing law and order situation.
But Manipur would not have been lagging behind anybody in the pace of development, if these brilliant Manipuris who are working outside the State, could have been encouraged to join in the administration of the State.
So, we should renew our effort of producing more good students and encourage them to join services suitable to their respective educational qualification in various Government Departments.
''As the Chairman of MPSC, I would perform my duties sincerely and ensure transparency in recruitment to Government posts'', Dr Singsit assured.
Manipur Public Service Commission was established in 1972 as the highest recruiting agency of the State Government.
