Imphal, August 05 2016 :
National Food Security Act (NFSA) has become 'National Fool Security Act' at Mayang Imphal AC, said BJP Manipur Pradesh executive member Ch Chidananda.
Speaking to reporters at BJP head office, Nityaipat Chuthek, Chidananda said that NFSA has created a furore in Manipur.
He said that although Congress claims that the Act was passed during UPA Government, the concept was formulated when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India in 2000 .
The then NDA Government began providing 35 kg of rice reach to AAY and BPL families from December 25, 2000, he said.
People of Mayang Imphal AC are yet to get NFSA rice even after four months of its implementation, he said.
Chidananda said that Mayang Imphal AC is home to people of different communities like Meitei, Meitei Pangal and Kabui.
Chidananda said that most of these people are farmers.
Efforts were made to distribute rice under the Act by setting up a Beneficiary Sub-Committee, Chidananda said that it is now questionable where these rice have gone.
He said that it is learnt that of the 8000 households selected as priority households, cards for only 6000 households have been prepared so far.
He also questioned why the Government is unable to complete preparation of cards in four months.
Chidananda further said that the Government must spell out the quantity of AC's rice quota per month and names of the Fair Price Shop agents.
Mayang Imphal AC MLA and Education Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar must tell why 20 kgs of rice would be given to all the households.
He must also clarify where the rice for AAY has gone, Chidananda said.
