Yairipok still tense after housewife's murder

Atleast ten protesters were injured as police fired tear gas cannisters on a large number of Yairipok locals, who tried to storm Yairipok Police Station, demanding arrest of the culprits in Ranjita murder case today.
It may be mentioned that Lourembam (O) Ranjita was found murdered at her paddy field on August 2 night.
Large numbers of Angtha citizens came forward in the morning to support the protest.
In addition to blocking Imphal-Yairipok road, the protestors forced shut down shops and vendors of Yairipok Bazar.
The irate mob was barricaded from marching towards Yairipok Khoirom, Ranjita's locality by the police.
Later at around 9:30 am, the mob was joined by residents of Khoirom at Yairipok Bazar.
The group then staged a sit-in-protest on the road of Yairipok Bazar.
They marched towards the police station later at around 3:30 pm to register demand for arrest of the culprits.
The protesters burnt tyres on Yairipok Chandrakhong road.
Further, the JAC was also strengthened with the inclusion of other associations namely, Meira paibis from Angtha, Kakmayai and Ningel, Universal Mother's Organisation and Thoubal District United Women Development Organisation.
Ranjita's body has not been claimed and is still lying in JNIMS Morgue.
Meanwhile the police have not announced the identity of the three suspects who have been pulled up in connection with the incident due to lack of evidence.
