Zeliangrong Students' Union, Barak Valley slammed 11 Field Regiment of Red Shield Division for letting loose a reign of terror in Cachar district of Assam and Barak circle of Jiribam.
The union charged that the troops have been arresting many innocent civilians of the areas on the pretext of counter insurgency operation for a quite
long time.
The union said that the security forces have turned out to be the tormentor of innocent civilians.
To testify the conduct of 11 Field Regiment, the union cited that three farmers and an auto rickshaw driver were arrested at Borobekra on October 24 and handed over to Jiri police station branding them as UGs even though no recovery had been made from them.
The four as stated by the union are Adai (54) s/o Gonglupou of Sibilong village, Namsulung (57) s/o (L) Khangsuang of Longchai village, Thangsung Hmar (68) s/o Thomlun of Tolpi village of Cachar, Assam and auto rickshaw driver O Bisheshore (28) s/o (L) Nanda of Chandrapur, Jiribam.
The union further warned that it would be compelled to launch agitation if 11 Field Regiment is not withdrawn at the earliest.
