Imphal, July 25:
Irked by the irregularities that have allegedly occurred in the United Bank of India (UBI), the Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL) has taken serious note and urged that it would take up its course of action even to the extent of intense agitation if the conncerned authority fails to look into the matter immediately.
The president of HKL, Godfry Zingkhai stated that UBI Ukhrul branch despite failing to discharge services upto the expectation of its customers due to lack of office staff, it has also been practising monopoly against its customers by one way or the other.
With only one counter being opened in the office, either for depositing or withhdrawal of money one has to wait for long hours or even sometimes it takes a day or two to get one's work done, he added.
To its dismay, UBI has to bank on some big businesssmen in the town to disburse a mere amount of Rs 50,000 which indicates that there is no enough money available in the bank and this creates apprehension in the mind of f the customers, informed the president, and expressed the need to investigate what has really went wrong in the functioning of the bank leaving thousands of people to its mercy.
"Pensioners are learned to be mostly affected since f they have to travel a long way from their respective villages to withdraw money from the lone bank in the district headquarters even at the cost of holding two to three days incurring heavy expenses.
Much te their woes is, the instant that sometimes these pensioners have to discover that their pension salaries already disbursed from the treasury office do not reach them but go to the pockets of few beneficiaries, alleged the stuudents' body.
Displeased with the poor status of banking system that preevails in the district, the union's president assserted that the State Goovernment had instead currtailed the process of introducing State Bank of India branch in the district headquarters in 2006 which otherwise was the need of the public here.
Godfy maintained that the so-called upgradation of UBI has nothing to indicate in terms of customer service satisfaction' but the only immprovement'it has now is the fact that the bank has been shifted to a better place, Viewland from Wino Bazaar: The inefficiency of this bank has also affected the functioning of major deposiitors like District Rural Development Agency (DRRDA) and NREG scheme is also being put on halt due to the failure of UBI to disburse the fund", claimed HKL.
