Imphal, December 21 2014:
An 11 year old boy miraculously escaped from the hands of five men who allegedly kidnapped and took him away in a van.
The boy is currently reading in Class V in a private school and belongs to Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai which is under the jurisdiction of Lamphel police station.
He could not be traced after he left home at around 9.30 am today.
After a frantic search, two sisters saw him walking on the new Naoremthong bridge in a terrified state.
Recounting the incident to media persons in the afternoon, the boy said that he was overpowered and put inside a van which has tinted glass by five unidentified persons when he was standing at his residential gate at around 10 am.
"One of them called me saying that he would like to ask me something.
But when I reached them, he covered my mouth with his hands while the others blindfolded me", the boy said.
Then the unidentified persons took the boy to an unknown place in the van before stopping at a public place.
There all the five got busy talking through their mobile phones.
Taking advantage of the situation, the boy jumped down and ran away.
Notably, the boy was freed from all kinds of shackles inside the van.
On seeing the statue of an elephant, the boy realized that the place was Khwairamband market.
Then he immediately ran towards Sagolband Bijoy Govinda where one of his aunts lives.
The next moment, he changed his mind and decided to run straight to his home.
Meanwhile, the Takyel Khongbal Chaokhat Thourang Nupi secretary Ngangom (O) Manjuri has condemned the abduction attempt in the strongest term.
Citing past incidents where some people of the locality have gone missing, Manjuri decried that police did not conduct proper investigation into these cases and simply kept silent.
Appealing to all concerned to restrain themselves from such activities in future, Manjuri asked whether parents should stay home all day looking after their children without going to work.
She also urged the State Government to investigate all missing cases thoroughly particularly those cases pertaining to children.
