Timely completion of DoNER projects stressed

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh has stressed on timely completion of DoNER projects by the State Governments.
Presiding over the 3rd meeting of the consultative committee for the DoNER Ministry here today, Dr Jitendra Singh said State Governments have a tendency to seek funds for new projects while the ongoing projects remain pending for long.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, who participated in the discussion as a special invitee, also underlined that project delays are unacceptable.
Secretary, DoNER Naveen Verma informed the members that backlog of projects now run into more than Rs 2,000 crore.
Members also discussed the utilization of Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).
They also expressed concern over the delays in projects implementation and misappropriation of funds.
Participating in the discussion, PA Sangma, MP (Lok Sabha) from Meghalaya, said the DoNER Ministry and the North-Eastern Council (NEC) should not merely act as funding agencies, but also plan and monitor the projects.
Vincent H Pala, MP (Lok Sabha) from Meghalaya, proposed that Vigilance and Monitoring Committee be constituted to oversee the timely execution of projects.
Prem Das Rai, MP (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, also attended the meeting as a special invitee.
Ramnganing Muivah, Secretary, North-Eastern Council, also attended the meeting.
