Imphal, April 22 2017:
Kuki Women Organisation for human rights (KWOHR) has strongly condemned the gang rape of two teenage girls.
Citizens in a liberal and democratic country are constitutionally entitled not only to right to life but also to right to live with dignity.
However, such barbaric act has raised a question if we still live in a state of anarchy, KWOHR said in statement.
The BJP-led State Government should ensure rule of law prevails and that the procedure established by law is strictly observed by delivering justice to the victims, the statement said.
It also extended solidarity to the victims and appealed to every rational individual and rights-based organisation to join hands for protection of individual's rights particularly women and children.
Women Committee, United NGOs Mission has also vehemently condemned the gang rape.
Lauding the prompt action of Imphal East SP and his team, Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East and proactive roles of other organisations, the committee has urged the State Government and the Department concerned to award befittting punishment to the involved culprits and also take up measures to check the cases of crimes against women in the State especially during special occasions and festivals.
