Imphal, April 22 2017:
Social Worker Md Riyajuddin Aribam has claimed that the authority concerned has not take up any steps till now to repair the Mutum Phibou suspension bridge which was burned down by some unknown miscreants on December last year.
Speaking to media persons at a public meeting held at Irong Khunou, he pointed out that none of the concerned departments have come to inspect the condition of the bridge which was set alight and destroyed on December 19 .
He urged the State Government to repair the suspension bridge at the earliest so as to ease the plight of the people, specially the students who have to cross the bridge.
Riyajuddin further pointed out that the Primary Health Centre situated at Irong Khunou has not been functioning properly for some time now.
He said that the health centre was inaugurated on April 19, 2015 but due to lack of doctors, the centre has been transformed into a defunct building and as most of the families of Irong Khunou are poor, they regularly face immense inconveniences due to non-functioning of the health centre.
Riyajuddin appealed to the State Government to look into the matter and construct a pucca bridge in place of the destroyed bridge.
Foundation stone for construction of Irong Khunou pucca bridge over Thoubal river was laid by the then CM along with the local MLA of that time Abdul Salam on December 21, 2002. Although it was completed on 2011, people had started using the bridge even before its inauguration and soon the retaining wall on Irong Umang side began to crumble and crash into water, he added expressing concern that the bridge may collapse any moment.
The social worker further urged the authority concerned to complete the pending construction of Irong Khunou to Hangul road.
