Intersectoral meeting on Dengue and Chikungunya held at Kangpokpi

In an attempt to control vector borne diseases in Kangpokpi district, an intersectoral meeting on Dengue and Chikungunya was held today at Multi-purpose Hall, DC Office, Kangpokpi DHQs with all concerned stakeholders, DLOs, local civil bodies and local self Government present in the meeting.
The intersectoral meeting was organized by District Health Society, National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP), Kangpokpi and sponsored by State Health Society, NVBDCP Manipur.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing graced the occasion as chief guest while Lalramsang Infimate (MCS), Addl DC Kangpokpi and Dr Thangpa Serto, State Malaria Officer, NVBDCP Manipur attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively while ADC Sadar Hills members Sagar Gewali and Seilen Lhoujem also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, Haokholal Hangshing emphasized on cleanliness and hygienic living especially in the town while stressing on the importance of organizing awareness programme of vector borne diseases at various places across the district to spread awareness among the people.
"Health is not only the responsibility of health/medical department, rather it is the responsibility of all departments and the general public as well", said Lalramsang Infimate, Addl DC Kangpokpi while adding that vector borne diseases must be dealt collectively involving local town authority and other civil bodies.
He also appealed the concerned authority to execute follow-up programme for effective and successful implementation of the vector borne diseases control programme in the district.
State Malaria Officer, NVBDCP Manipur, Dr Thangpa Serto said that the concerned authority's role is to control the diseases by controlling mosquitoes which can spread various vector borne diseases and it is the responsibilities of all including the general public to control the diseases by playing a vital role in keeping the surrounding neat and tidy.
Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate, District Malaria Officer, Kangpokpi said that awareness is one of the most important weapons in the fight against vector borne diseases including Dengue and Chikungunya and the intersectoral meeting was organized to sensitize the people of Kangpokpi about the vector borne diseases.
She said that the first case of Chikungunya was reported in the state this year in the month of March where two cases was reported in Molhoi village under Kangpokpi District and another case was from Tamenglong district while adding that out of the two cases in Kangpokpi the mother had died and her daughter is survived.
While having a lengthy elaboration on Dengue and Chikungunya, apart from other vector borne diseases, the District Malaria Officer said that the best treatment for vector borne disease including Dengue and Chikungunya is prevention which needs concerted effort from all sectors.
She appealed all the people of Kangpokpi to enthusiastically participate in any awareness programme related to the vector borne diseases to be conducted by the NVBDCP Kangpokpi in the district as per the guidelines so as to eliminate the vector borne diseases in the district and to be aware of the preventive measures.
