Farmers' training program

Under the Technology Mission (MM-II) 2011-12 Kangpokpi branch of Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation organised a one training programme for distribution of winter crop seeds at Saparmeina community hall, under Saitu-Gamphajol sub-division today.
Presenting the key-note address Deputy Director of the host office A Jayanta Kumar Sharma emphasised on enhancing farm product to such an extent that the harvest benefit not only people at the village or block level but also contribute to food security in the State.
Highlighting that cultivation of pulses and cereal crops in the hilly terrain of Manipur is highly suitable, he called upon the participants to adopt scientific and composite method of farming in order to increase productivity.
Prevailing upon hill-based NGOs to take the initiative in promoting agriculture and horticulture activities in the hill areas, he assured all possible contribution from the side of the Department.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sadar hills Autonomous District Council member Lunthang Haokip appreciated the Department's endeavour to reach out to the farmers of the hill districts.
He, however, regretted belated distribution of the winter crop seeds and urged the farmers for more concerted effort to ensure sufficient harvest of the food items.
Gamphazol village chief Mangken Kipgen and Saitu-Gamphazol SDO M Goura Singh also attended the training cum seeds distribution programme.
