Imphal, November 17 2011:
MPP Central Committee has slammed the Union Home Ministry's proposal to set up a Supra State body to look after affairs of Nagas of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Government of Manipur should seek a detailed report about the proposal from the Government of India and put it before the people of Manipur.
Taking serious note of the proposal for setting up a Supra State body, the MPP Central Committee held a meeting today with their president Dr Nimaichand in the chair.
Among others, the meeting was participated by former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani, former Union Minister Th Chaoba, MPP Legislature Wing leader O Joy, former speaker Dr S Dhananjoy, ex-MLA L Jatra and general secretary Robin Blacky.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the Indian Constitution has no provision to set up any Supra State body in any part of the country.
Nevertheless, MPP constitution embodies a declaration to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur as well as to protect the identities of each and every community of the State.
The central committee held today resolved to oppose the Union Home Ministry's proposal to set up Supra State body, Dr Nimaichand said.
In case, the Government of India decides to go ahead with the proposed Supra State, MPP would even shed blood for the sake of Manipur, he stated.
The resolutions of the MPP Central Committee meeting would be sent to the President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Governor of Manipur Chief Minister and leaders of national level political parties.
Moreover, MPP would also launch a campaign against the Centre's initiative to set up Supra State, Nimaichand said.
As a prelude to the campaign, MPP would stage a protest demonstration in front of the party office on November 19 .
Stating that the proposal has made the people anxious and apprehensive, Dr Nimaichand demanded the State Government to seek a detailed report about the proposal from the Union Home Ministry and inform the public about the report.
MLA O Joy remarked that the Supra State body is a political term invented in the course of the peace-talk between Government of India and NSCN-IM.
It was invented by the Government of India to appease NSCN-IM at the cost of Manipur's territorial integrity.
The people of Manipur and MPP would oppose the proposed Supra State body tooth and nail, Joy added.
