Fortnight observation ends

The International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence Against Women, jointly organised by WAD, RUCHI, NEDF, SSG and 10 other civil society organisations, has concluded at Classic Hotel today.
The observation was held under the theme, 'From peace in the home to peace in the world: Let's challenge militarism and end violence against women' .
Khurai AC MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, ISTV News Sub-Editor Jit Ningomba, Dr Chinglen Maisnam of Manipur University and senior journalist A Mobi attended the closing function as presidium members.
Apart from other programmes, discussion sessions on the rights of street vendors, armed conflict, drug abuse, mental health and its relevance to Manipuri women were organised during the observance that kick started on November 25 .
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Ng Bijoy said that violence against women is getting worsened beyond imagination in the State.
Opining that women face oppression and discrimination starting from the stage of foetus till her death, the MLA said that psychological violence has long term effect on women and their families for which it is important to bring a change in people's mindset.
Dr Dhanabir Laishram gave a different aspect on the cause of violence against women focusing mainly on the Constitution of India saying that there is no democracy in India because there is no equality.
