Kangpokpi, November 11 2018:
The hit and run case on Chavang Kut night at Saparmeina under Gamnom Saparmeina Police Station is likely to witness an intense stir as the Thadou Students' Association rolled up its sleeves for an indefinite bandh along National Highway-2 from midnight of November 12.The body of the victim, a quarry labourer, killed on the spot in the hit and run case still remains unattended for more than ten days while the bereaved family particularly the helpless mother continue to wait for justice.
"Considering the laudable swift action in tracing the man involved in making a video threat to Chief Minister and nabbing him in Tamil Nadu within a short span, the time given to the concerned and the State Government to trace and nab the culprits involved in the hit and run case is enough", asserted an enraged Thangpimang, secretary, Social and Culture, TSA Sadar Hills.
He also said that the technology and strategy employed by the State police in cracking crimes against VVIPs and VIPs of the State is noteworthy, but the seriousness of the State Government on any issue becomes questionable when it involves the ordinary people.
"The body of a poor quarry labourer has been lying unattended for ten days and the authorities concerned are maintaining silence over the matter.
Is this not a complete contradiction of the popular slogan 'Go to Hills'", asked Thangpimang.
Peeved over the alleged apathy of the State Government, TSA Sadar Hills said that they are ready to impose an indefinite bandh from midnight of November 12 along the National Highway-2 until and unless justice is delivered.
Recalling the unfortunate incident, the student body said that the deceased Lamminthang Kipgen of Siloi village was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in the early evening of November 1 at Saparmeina village under Gammon Saparmeina Police Station, and his body was deposited ay RIMS morgue while the family members of the deceased refused to claim the body until and unless the culprits are brought to book.
Pertaining to the matter, on November 3, TSA Sadar Hills submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to do the needful in finding out the culprits.
However, as no positive response could be seen on the part of the Government an ultimatum was served for calling an agitation from November 6 which was suspended while taking into account the festive mood of the people and in respect of the request made by the district authority and the Minister concerned.
However, the tardy progress in the investigation with the culprits remaining at large even after the lapse often days and the Government's lackadaisical attitude towards the issue, TSA Sadar Hills is compelled to pick up the cudgel so that the authority concerned is goaded into action, said Thangpimang.
He added "we have shown great restraint and rationality with the expectation that the Government would take its responsibility in finding the culprits but our hopes have been belied." While appealing the people of Manipur to cooperate and extend full support towards its quest for justice, the student body also reminded the people as to how it (TSA Sadar Hills) exhibited its humanity and understanding by suspending its proposed stir during the various important festivals celebrated by the people.
Meanwhile, office of the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi announced a reward of Rs 20,000/- to any person who provides information about the vehicle involved in the hit and run accident at Saparmeina on November 1 in which a person namely Lamminthang Kipgen, w/o Lamboichong Kipgen of Siloi village was killed.
It also stated that the identity of the informer will be concealed while information can be provided through Mobile No 9612700785/8119874999/8119998020/7085799886 .
