Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) Assam, Manipur & Nagaland and Diocius Social Service Society (DSSS) jointly observed International Human Rights Day on the theme "Our Rights Our Freedom Always" today at RLP office, Langol Tarung from 10 am to 3 pm.
Akhiam Panmei, former DC Tamenglong and Bishnupur, Namdithiu Pamei, Aram Pamei, Advocate Sumitra Kamei, Panti Golmei, president RLP, Kabuanchunglu were seated on the dais.
A two-minute silence was observed in respect of all the victims of human rights violation.
The programme ended with a mass spoken prayer for all the surviving victims, according to a statement issued by co-ordinator of DSSS and president of RLP.
The International Human Rights Day was also observed by the All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union (AMMGSU) at the premises of Muslim Girls' Hostel, Minuthong today.
The programme was attended by MLA RK Anand Singh, Dr Janatun Begum, Assistant Professor, Manipur College and Rukhsar Choudhury, president, AMMGSU as presidium members.
Speaking at the function , RK Anand said that human rights are entitled to all the people.
However, people of the North East India and Jammu & Kashmir are deprived of the rights.
Enforcement of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act have curtailed the rights of the people.
As part of the observation, an open discussion on "Manipuri Women: Rights and Harmony" was also conducted.
