Consumers now have easy access to LPG

Imphal, March 10 2016: Following marked improvement in the supply and distribution of LPG in the State, people have now easy access to cooking gas.

Even though most of the distributors have backlog of around 45 days regarding distribution of LPG refills, consumers have started receiving refills quite regularly.

As such, the efforts of IOC to reduce the backlog to 21 days are unlikely to serve any purpose.

According to information furnished to The Sangai Express by distributors regarding distribution of refills, most of the distributors have backlog of around 45 days against the IOC's target of reducing the backlog to 21 days.

Despite the backlog of 21 days, majority of the consumers are no longer facing shortage of LPG.

The marked improvement in the supply and distribution of LPG in the State is a result of the collective efforts of all concerned including IOC officials, drivers and labourers, said some distributors.

Supply and distribution of LPG was irritatingly poor in the State until four/five months back on account of obstructions to regular transportation and also lethargy and unethical practices on the part of all sections who are related to supply and distribution of LPG directly or indirectly.

The improvement in supply and distribution of LPG seen in the State since the last couple of months is something unprecedented, said the distributors.

Consumers of different LPG distributors operating in Imphal East district like GBD Indane, Lambodara Indane Service, Mahalaxmi Indane Gas, Manipur Gas Service etc have started getting LPG refills quite regularly.

To provide 12 refills to each household in a year is the Government of India's target but it is estimated six/seven refills are enough to last a year in the State.

GBD Indane has around 12500 consumers.

Out of them, 164 have been issued six refills each.

Lambodara Indane Service has around 4000 active consumers and the distributor has issued six refills each to 994 consumers.

1085 consumers out of the total of around 4000 consumers registered with Mahalaxmi Indane Gas have been provided six refills each.

306 consumers of Manipur Gas Service have also been issued six refills each while 222 consumers of the same distributor have been provided seven to 12 refills.

Nine refills each have been issued to four consumers of GBD Indane Service, eight refills each to 20 consumers and seven refills each to 52 consumers.

12 refills each have been issued to four consumers of Lambodara Indane Service, 11 refills each to 30 consumers, 10 refills each to 38 consumers, nine refills each to 65 consumers, eight refills each to 149 consumers and seven refills each to 406 consumers.

11 refills have been issued to one consumer of Mahalaxmi Indane Gas, 10 refills to another consumer, nine refills to a third consumer, eight refills each to 17 consumers and seven refills each to 192 consumers.
