Imphal, May 04 2011:
Refuting the charge that Salam Sanjoy of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba died due to drug overdose as complete hogwash, mother of late Sanjoy, Shushila Devi has categorically stated that Kabita and all her associates should be held responsible for anything that may befall upon the bereaved family.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club here today, Salam (O) Shushila Devi said the charge that Sanjoy died from drug overdose levelled by Kabita, who is said to be president of Bahujan Samaj Party and other associates is totally baseless.
Shushila disclosed that on May 2, DGP Joykumar summoned the bereaved family members for having some talks.
Kabita was already there in the office chamber of DGP and in front of the police officer himself, Kabita gestured and warned the family members to wait and see what she could do.
So, in case anything happen to the bereaved family, Kabita and her associates should be held responsible, Shushila said.
Shushila further said that when her son Sanjoy alias Bono was around 16 years of age, Imphal East police arrested him on alleged charge of being a member of MDF.
Subsequently, he was lodged in the jail.
But was released afterward stating that there was no case against him.
On the other hand, Bobo (25), elder brother of Sanjoy was also arrested by 12 Maratha Light Infantry around one year back.
But he was set free on that same day itself.
After all these incidents, Ningthoukhongjam Kabita, who claimed herself to be a social worker and president of Bahujan Samaj Party unexpectedly came to their house at around 12.30 pm on April 27 to prevail upon her (Shushila) to hand over her son to the Army, which promises to provide job, Shushila said.
At that time, her son Sanjoy was not at home.
He was in Nagaland.
He had been taken to Nagaland to cook for them by some of his male relatives who are doing the tailoring works of the Assam Rifles there, Shushila said, adding convinced by Kabita, she called out her son from Nagaland and took him to Kabita.
''Kabita handed over my son to the custody of 12 Maratha Light Infantry on April 29 in front of my own eyes.
But in the afternoon of the same day, the Army contacted my husband to inform that my son was sick.
Accordingly, we went and found my son lying dead in the casualty of RIMS'', Shushila said.
