Imphal, July 03 2014:
A meeting in connection with street vendor and its related issues was on Thursday organized by the women vendors of the Purana Keithel.
During the meeting, one woman vendor said that the licensed vendors do not have any personal bitterness with the street vendors.
Although, she added, street vendors, who are selling vegetables around Purana Keithel, have affected their business tremendously as street vendors prevent the customers as they sell vegetables on the street.
She said that as most of the women vendors of Purana Keithel sell vegetables, they sometimes have to incur loss when the vegetables get rotten.
She said that they have to pay the tax of the Imphal Municipal Council for market license.
It was also mentioned by the woman that there is no such burden of taxing on the part of street vendors.
The woman vendor also lamented the Govt of Manipur for maintaining silence and further expressed that Manipur Govt might love to see dying of women vendors as well as fighting each other between licensed vendors and street vendors and further maintained that they have no answers for the questions raised by the street vendors.
It was resolved in the meeting that the women of the Purana Keithel will stage a sit in protest on Friday to protest against the irresponsible attitude of the Government of Manipur.
