The 39th foundation day of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) was observed today with distribution of sweets and other eatables among the people.
The main function of the observance was held at its DM College complex head office with hoisting of flag and paying floral tributes those student leaders who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of people.
AMSU was established on this day of 1965 as an outcome of the students agitation, popularly known as Chaklam Khongchat (Hunger Marchers' Day) against steep price rice and artificial scarcity of rice in Manipur.
Greeting the people on the occasion, secretary general of the students' body Mayengbam Chourjit Singh pledged to continue the good work being done by AMSU since its inception for the welfare of the State and the student community in particular.
Stating that AMSU has been contribute its mite to the ongoing public agitation for complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, Chourjit also hailed other like-minded student bodies fighting for the same cause.
AMSU further called for a united effort on the part of the people for achieving the common goal of removing all black laws from Manipur.
