Imphal, August 28:
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has decried use of force by State police personnel against the young students who came out to surrender their text books protesting against prolonged imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur.
The fact that even the students have come in the street to protest against the atrocities committed by security personnel and dared to face police action, shows the intensity of the ongoing agitation for complete withdrawal of black laws which give unrestrained powers to security forces, said a statement issued by the publicity sub-committee of the Apunba I up today.
It is rather surprising the Governor and Chief Minister of the State could remain unconcerned even at this stage of the agitation, the statement said, adding that the tear of books by the students and throwing them at the gates of Raj Bhavan and Chief Minister's bungalow are akin to throwing the same right on the faces of Governor and Chief Minister.
Reacting to Chief Minister's call for talks, the Apunba Lup categorically stated that if the Chief Minister does not what the people actually want till now, talks would be of no use.
Rather than pretending to be concerned about the.
Well being of the people, the Chief Minister should take up steps to withdrawal AFSPA from Manipur completely, it added.
Reacting to the fear expressed by some MLAs and Minister that Centre might impose President's Rule in the State if the present turmoil continues, the Apunba Lup said it would be a better option as the people can directly confront the Central leaders and representatives instead of pleading the elected representatives of the people, who care nothing but their posts.
