Keeping up the tempo of ongoing public agitation for complete withdrawal of ASPFA from Manipur and giving fitting punishment to AR jawans responsible for killing of Thangjam Manorama and Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai, student protestors court arrested themselves in front to Raj Bhavan and Chief Minister's bungalow here today even as many students surrendered their text books at the Nongada Mayai Leikai residence of Agriculture, MI, CADA and Art & Culture Minister Ph Parijat before court arresting themselves.
Despite the stringent security arrangement in and around the area, large number of students of Manipur College, Imphal descended and stormed in front of the gate of Chief Minister's bungalow at around 1.20 pm today and court arrested themselves.
The student protestors shouted slogans demanding lifting of AFSPA from Manipur, punishment of AR personnel involved in the brutal killing of Manorama and Jamkholet and condemning slapping of NSA on the arrested public leaders spearheading the ongoing movement.
All the student protestors were later arrested by the police.
Five students of Birmangol College, Sawombung who came to court arrest themselves in front of Raj Bhavan gate here this afternoon demanding complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, removal of Assam Rifles from Kangla and punishment of AR personnel involved in the custodial killing of Thangjam Manorama have been arrested by the police.
The five student protestors led by general secretary of the college students' union hood winked the police personnel who are keeping vigil in and around the Raj Bhavan and rushed in front of Raj Bhavan while shouting slogans.
The police personnel caught hold of them and later took them in a police vehicle waiting nearby.
Earlier during the day, at around 11.50 am, around 600 students drawn from Lamlai Higher Secondary School and Central High School, Chalou surrendered their text books at the Nongada Mayai Leikai residence of Minister Ph Parijat.
As the slogans shouting students protestors arrived at the Minister's residence, some persons who were present there already tried to stop them from entering the compound leading to direct confrontation with the agitating students who started pelting stones.
Later the agitating students flung the text books they are carrying inside the compound of the Minister.
Police personnel who arrived at the spot on hearing the news, used force to disperse the students.
But they returned back and court arrested themselves.
All the arrested students were, however, released afterwards near Itam Bridge.
W Rajesh, a class X student of Lamlai Hr Sec School and Chakpram Rembo, another class X student of Central High School were allegedly beaten up by the police personnel after taking them to Lamlai Police Station.
