Imphal, July 23:
India Reserve Battalion (IRB) today roughed up a local scribe who was covering the activities of protestors attempting to take out a procession here during the curfew relaxation period against the killing of Th Manorama Devi.
Official sources said the IRB personnel chased Thiya Ranjan, a reporter of vernacular daily 'Sanaleibak', when he ran into his house nearby at Keisampat area in the town and beat him up severely.
Section 144 Cr P C is in force in the town though the curfew was relaxed for 12 hours in Imphal and Greater Imphal areas for 12 hours since 4 am Taking out of processions was therefore banned, the sources said.
Following the incident, media personnel under the banner of All Manipur Working Journalist Union and other media organisations rushed to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's residence but were stopped at the gates, the sources said.
