Imphal, April 19:
All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) presented gift and other presents to chiefs of various villages and elderly persons during a function held at Sandang Senba Maring Khul as part of its annual itinerary of Sajibu Khudol Tamba, Egee Khongul Liba observance to strengthen the bond of fraternity among the hills and valley people.
A temple dedicated to the indigenous God of Maring people was also inaugurated at the occasion.
Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba and president of Maring Hilmun Hinglen Th Moran Maring graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Leishemba stressed on the need to preserve and promote the cultural heritage handed down by our forefathers.
In this modern time, he said, one should tread the path cautiously with a clear understanding of the concept of Westernisation and Modernisation.
With faster pace of development and the world becoming a global village, the culture and tradition of smaller groups of people are being influenced from outside forces.
In such a juncture, the efforts being made by Maring people to promote and preserve their cultural heritage is praiseworthy, he exhorted.
What is most important to know for a person, Leishemba further said, is to know his own identity and culture.
One who knows himself could live in the society with pride, he added.
AMESCO general secretary IB Luwang who also spoke at the occasion, noted that Manipur is small State inhabited by many ethnic groups of people who have been living in peaceful co-existence.
Each group should respect and understand the custom of the other groups.
Otherwise a great chasm could be created among the people which would be detrimental to the tradition of peaceful coexistence.
Chiefs of various villages along with many other elderly persons were felicitated with gifts and presents by the volunteers of AMESCO thereby re-affirming the fraternal boding between the hill and the valley people.
