Key losers of 2012 election

Imphal, March 06 2012:
Many surprises were thrown up today when the results to the 10th Manipur legislative assembly election were declared with a quite a handful of prominent politicians of the state biting the dust today.
Among them, former Chief Minister and Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam of NCP, O Joy of Manipur People's Party (MPP), Cabinet Ministers D.D Thaisii, Alauddin Khan and Jayenta Singh of the Congress (INC), Vice President of Hill Area Council (HAC) Khangthuanang Panmei (Independent) and CPI legislators Ch Parijat and Mangi.
Radhabinod Koijam was defeated by Trinamool Congress (TC) Joykishan in Thangmeiband A/C.O Joy was defeated by lone Lok Janata Party (LJP) candidate Karam Shyam by a margin of 1033 votes in Thangthabal A/C .
Interestingly, O Joy has been representing this constituency since 1974.He, however, lost once in 1983 election.
Cabinet Minister D.D Thaisii was defeated by Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate Dr Alexander Pao for the seat of Karong A/C in Senapati district while another Cabinet Minister Allaudin Khan was defeated by Thamarjit Singh of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) in Keirao constituency.
Another surprise witnessed in this election was the loss of large number of sitting MLAs.
Altogether 25 sitting MLAs could not make it this time including nine from Congress (INC), four from NCP, four Independents, three NPP, 2 CPI, one from MPP and 2 others.
