Culling of fowl concludes

Culling of fowls, carried out by the State Veterinary Department in the aftermath of Avian Influenza outbreak in the State capital, concluded today.
22,530 fowls have been culled at the infected zone till today, said N Rajendro Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur at a press conference held at his the office today.
He further said that the mopping up process has been started in various localities of surveillance areas by 10 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and from tomorrow onwards combing process would be conducted at infected zone.
If any fowl is found during the combing process, it would be culled immediately and no compensation would be given to the owner for these fowls, recovered during the combing, he said.
On the last day today, 1,917 birds were culled, he added.
He further said that the localities of the surveillance zone where RRTs have taken up checking and surveys of Avian Influenza include Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, Kakwa Lilando Lampak, Thongju, Kiyamgei, Bashikhong, Kongba, Bamon Kampu, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Akampat, Singjamei Kshetri Leikai, Awang Wabagai, Keikhol and Koirengei.
He also said that the mopping up process would continue in other parts of the surveillance zone and added that samples will be collected every 15 days until the Avian Influenza virus is totally wiped off, he said.
