Man torches house, nabbed

An individual, who set fire to a house as well as a nearby car and a loom today morning, was rounded up by locals and then handed over to the police.
Furthermore, the locals also recovered a two wheeler allegedly belonging to the individual, from a nearby field and destroyed it by setting it on fire.
According to a reliable source, the home belongs to one Thokchom Inaobi Singh (61) s/o (L) Th Gulamchan of the locality while the car belongs to Th Basantakumar Singh (31) s/o Th Munal.
The source explained that the owner of the house and the owner of the car are neighbours and added that the miscreant had set fire to both the car and the loom which were kept at a shed.

Passers-by and morning walkers spotted the fire on time and as such, Thoubal Fire Service, working with the locals, were able to douse the fire before it got out of control.
It is reported that properties worth around Rs 60,000 have been destroyed by the fire, the source added.
Speaking to media persons, the affected families claimed that the miscreant had cut the electricity for Wangbal area before proceeding to set fire to the car and the loom.
After that he then he set his eyes on the house.
The accused has been identified as one Keidongbam Subol (44) s/o (L) K Birdhon of Wangbal Mayai Leikai.
He was reportedly caught hiding inside the toilet of the house he set on fire, while the locals were trying to douse the flames.
The family members narrated that during the commotion, the locals found that someone was hiding inside the toilet.
As the occupant defied orders to come out, the locals broke down the door and Subol was found inside with some petrol and a knife.
They further alleged that when the locals tried to apprehend him, Subol sprayed petrol at them and tried to burn a match.
On the other hand, a police source informed that police picked up Subol and were transporting him to the police station when he began to convulse.
He was immediately rushed to Thoubal District Hospital for treatment.
However, as the doctors opined that he might have ingested spirit and that his condition was serious, Subol was transferred to RIMS.
Opining that Subol might have drank the unknown chemical while he was hiding inside the toilet, the police source mentioned that a bag containing small plastic packets filled with petrol and a plastic bottle were recovered from him.
