All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Thoubal district has pulled up a driver and his handyman, who passed lewd comments at a BA 1st Semester girl student of DM College of Science.
The duo, identified as Aribam Tulak Khan alias Apik (24) s/o Najamuddin and Aribam Ajis Khan alias Ithem (18) s/o Heimu of Sangaiyumpham Mayai Leikai Part-II, operate a Tata Magic passenger service between Wangjing and Imphal.
Speaking to reporters at its office, AMSU Thoubal District HRD secretary Bidyarani Wahengbam said that on September 18, the victim girl boarded their Tata Magic van (MN-04/A-7294) from Wangjing to Imphal.
After all the passengers got off near Johnstone School in Imphal, the duo started not only passing lewd comments at her but also demanded her phone number, she added.
Unable to hear them, the girl made phone calls to student leaders of her college, Bidyarani said.
Upon this, the driver turned his van towards Gandhi Avenue instead of driving towards DM College, she added.
Worried and apprehensive with the sudden change of direction, the girl jumped down from the vehicle, Bidyarani said.
After the girl put up the matter to them, AMSU Thoubal district asked the duo and representatives of Wangjing to Imphal Magic Welfare Association to come at their office to sort out the matter.
Although, the driver and handyman had apologised for their lewd act, association members have not turned up till date, Bidyarani added.
She said that the driver and handyman were permanently banned from operating passenger service.
AMSU Thoubal district has also imposed a ban on the Wangjing to Imphal Magic Welfare Association from carrying on until a negotiation is brought about, she added.
