Imphal, January 12 2020:
Remarking on the absurd number of festivals being organised in the State every year, Keirao A/C MLA Lourembam Rameshwor has lamented that most of the festivals show clear signs of improper planning or objective as if they were just organised for namesake.
He made the statement during the opening ceremony of the Leishang Hiden Festival cum Expo 2020, which was organised under the aegis of Leishang Hiden Protection and Development Authority (LHPDA), at Leishang Hiden Machin, opposite Manipur University front gate today.
Speaking at the ceremony, the MLA noted that inclusion of gambling and selling of items sourced from Moreh side or from other States, have completely ruined the value of the festivals being organised in the State.
Appealing to the people and the organisers to make Leishang Hiden Festival cum Expo a unique and one of a kind festival, L Rameshwor said that Keirao is inhabited by diverse communities and as such, it will be greatly beneficial if the handiworks, crafts and organic items produced by the indigenous people are sold or showcased in the festival.
He continued that Leishang Hiden is a historically significant water body and added that during the recent drought faced by the State, the said water body greatly benefited the people of the area.
The MLA also lauded LHPDA saying that the area used to be a dumping ground in the past but the association has worked hard to ensure the beautification of Leishang Hiden.
On the other hand, the MLA opined that it will be better to promote sale of flowers and other gardening related items along Leishang Hiden instead of selling second hand garments.
Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman and Sekmai AC MLA Heikham Dingo, MLAs Soibam Subhaschandra and Thokchom Satyabrata were also present during the event.
