Imphal, April 10 2011:
Works Minister K Ranjit has stated that befitting action would be initiated against Hukato Naga Company which took the contract for developing a stretch of NH-39 from Maram to Taphou Kuki but has failed to execute the work.
The Works Minister today inspected different sections of NH-39 where repairing/development works are going on with around Rs 200 crores sanctioned by the Government of India.
The inspection team including the PWD Chief Engineer and other senior officials found that no work was done on the 27 Kms stretch between Maram and Taphou Kuki except for a very short stretch.
Taking a serious note of the situation, Ranjit said that contract work for the said highway stretch was obtained by the said company in association with one Th Bishworjit from Thongju.
Even as Bishworjit was personally instructed to start implementing the contract work which amounts to Rs 33.89 crores, nothing was done to execute the contract work.
Further, officials of the Hukato Naga Company were instructed by the Chief Engineer as a final warning to execute the road development work.
Noting that it is the wish of the people to make NH-39 a standard highway, Ranjit mentioned that the Senapati District Students' Association has been urging the Govt to repair and develop the highway properly.

Under such circumstances, the Government is compelled to black list and book the concerned contractor according to rules.
On the other hand, development work has been initiated on the 23 Kms long stretch from Mao to Maram after around Rs six crores were sanctioned by the Government of India.
Because of threats issued by UG groups to the hot-mix plant located at Karong and other hot-mix plants located elsewhere for not fulfilling their monetary demands, development works on NH 39 from Mao to Moreh could be undertaken only for two months during this working season.
The Works Minister also inspected the construction work of Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts currently underway at Sadar Hills and Senapati.
After directly observing the construction work of Senapati mini-secretariat, Ranjit said that a target has been set to inaugurate all the mini-secretariats being built at hill district headquarters by June this year at the latest.
