Kongyang Leikoi shown

Kongyang Leikoi, a production of Kanglei Enat Thang Ta Shindam Sanglen, Kongpal Chaban Leikai, was shown at Jalil High School, Khergao today.
Jalil High School secretary Khalib Shah, S Nodiya Mangang (Kanglasha, Thang Ta Shintakpurel) and State Awardee L Ibocha Khuman took part in the event as the chief minister, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Kanglei Enat Thang Ta Shindam Shanglen instructor L Ibungomacha Meitei said, "Kongyang Leikoi is a type of armed martial arts technique used in warfare and first introduced during the reign of Khagemba Ningthou" .
Kongyang Leikoi is a combination of two words, Kongyang meaning bamboo or staff and Leikoi meaning revolving around the body.
He said that the weapons used during those days were quite different adding that the present day weapons are used for presentation and spectacle and are dulled so as not to harm the bearer while he or she manoeuvres it.
The ancient weapons consisted of two staffs, each topped with a spiked ball fashioned out of bamboo roots, he added.
The production was shown at Jalil High School to spread knowledge about the martial arts technique among the students.
