The 4th issue of Patriotic Writers' Forum's bi-annual journal entitled 'Ngaklou' was released simultaneously with three other books on the occasion of the Forum's 4th foundation day held today at Manipur press Club.
As chief guest of the event, former president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad B Jayentakumar singh released Yaiskul Khwairakpam's short story entitled 'Pheejinungi Kundo Pareng', radio play 'Kangla Ukok' written by Pebam Ku-mar and an essay called 'Manipuri Culture Da Mityeng Khara' edited by Rakesh Naorem.
Recounting that inspite of existence for only four years over 30 books and journals have been released by the Forum, Jayentakumar said such an achievement reflect commitment and determination of the Forum's members to preserve and promote the rich heritage of Manipuri literature.
He also noted that continuous emergence of new writers with refreshing ideas is due to the strong foundation laid by writers/authors of the 19th and 20th centuries.
While pointing out that inclusion of Mani-puri Language in the 8th Schedule of the indian Constitution is in recognition of the contribution by several literary figures of Manipur, the chief guest stressed that there should be relentless effort by all concerned to further enrich Manipuri Language.
He opined that translation of literary works of renowned writers in other languages, specifically in Hindi or English will enable readers of other States understand and appreciate Manipur's art and culture.
As functional president of the celebration, the Forum's president Sagolsem Indrakumar said development of a society is not only determined by materialistic advancement but through the society's richness in art, culture and literary works.
Stating that the global concept of a society's scale of development is measured on the basis of number of book released in a calendar year, he said the USA and Germany are currently the top two nations where maximum number of books are released.
