NESO leaders meet CMs of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh

North East Students Organisation (NESO) leaders have met the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh in the last three days and discussed matters for the safety of the people from the North East region in the southern States of India.
On the eve of its bandh in the region, NESO adviser S.Artax informed Newmai News Network this evening that the State Governments concerned should ensure the safety of North East people in mainland India by formulating effective mechanism and measures.
The NESO adviser also said that institutions and companies or even the Governments in the State of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka should not victimise the people of the North East region for their absence in their work places during the recent exodus.
"The people from our region had fled as they were compelled by the volatile situation.
When these people return to their work places, they should not be victimised," asserted S Artax.
The NESO adviser also demanded that all the Bangladeshi citizens who had come to India with valid documents but untraceable in the country should be booked by the Government without losing time.
Over 80 thousand people from the neighbouring country have "disappeared" in the country in the last three years.
Meanwhile, NESO is all set to hold a massive rally on Thursday from a place called Latasil in Guwahati.
Chief ministers of the north eastern states have been invited to participate in the rally tomorrow.
It is expected that the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the region are likely to join the rally.
When the rest of the North Eastern states will witness bandh, a massive rally has been planned in Guwahati in protest against the recent episode where people from the North East region have been discriminated in the mainland India and the callous attitude of the central government in the matter.
On August 23 in Guwahati, issues on the illegal immigrants in the north east region, the prolonging fencing process of the government of India along the Indo-Bangla border and a policy to ensure the safety of the north east people in the mainland India were disccused in the NESO meeting.
The NESO units from all the North Eastern states participated in that meeting where they had deliberated that the government of India should ensure to check the influx of foreigners illegally in the north east region.
The need to have a comprehensive policy to detect and deport the illegal immigrants from the north east region should be made by the government of India was also stressed in the meeting.
The NESO leaders had also pointed out the prolonging period to complete the fencing work in the Indo-Bangla border when the same could be done in the Indo-Pakistan border within a short period.
"There are so many porous areas in the Indo Bangla border which have been serving as gate-ways for illegal immigrants," one of the NESO functionary
had said.
